What are some guidelines for handling suspected situations of Human Trafficking?

DO NOT:

  • Do not attempt to rescue an individual – this is dangerous and life-threatening for the individual and yourself.

  • Do not pretend to be a client (person purchasing sex or other services) under any circumstance.

  • Do not lash out at the person controlling the victim, either physically, verbally, or otherwise.

  • Do not follow either the victim or the controller (pimp, gang member, boyfriend, etc.) for any reason.

  • Do not give a victim your phone number or other contact information.

DO:

  • Contact local authorities as soon as possible. If there’s an address, license plate number, etc. that will be helpful to them, try to get that information ONLY if it is safe for you and for the victim. Be as discreet as you possibly can. Remember that anything you do may have repercussions on the victim, as interaction with you may seem like the victim was trying to escape.

  • If the situation allows, you can let them know that you are praying for them and that God loves them.

  • If the situation allows, you can let them know the National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-3737-888.
