Summer Fun = Healing 😁

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Proverbs 17:22

As the month of August draws to a close, summer too is ending. Students are returning to school, and we are starting to anticipate the return of all of our favorite parts of fall. Before we head to a pumpkin patch, enjoy pumpkin spice lattes, or bask in the cooling fall weather, though, I want to reflect on the wonderful season summer has been for Rebirth Homes.

Over the last few years, we have seen how important fun is in the healing journey for our participants, and summer is an especially exciting time for fun activities. This year was no exception. We planned regular trips to the beach, movies, and parks during the summer, and we are especially appreciative of all the donations of swimwear and athletic wear that have made these summer activities accessible to our participants. Daytrips and other fun summer activities help bring balance to the intense work each participant is doing in her healing journey.

Along with summer activities, we recently branched out in our chicken venture by raising chicks. In the photo below, you will see our newest therapy chickens (I’m not really sure there’s such a thing as therapy chickens, but these adorable little creatures certainly provide a lot of entertainment and moments to connect). Will you join us in welcoming our newest members? The one on the right who is posing for the photo is named Queenie. From day one we knew she was in charge as the keeper of the flock. She does it in a loving and caring way, which is encouraging. She’s also the only chick who is okay with being held.

One of our participants has become our chicken keeper, and she is very excited about our new family members. If everything goes as planned, we should start seeing eggs from them around November, unless the weather causes a delay.

Unpacking and healing from complex trauma takes time, courage, strength and laughter. With the help of our loving savior, Jesus, we can laugh and find joy even in the hardest seasons. He’s so good and always faithful!

Also, I would like to ask that you consider volunteering with Rebirth Homes. We are specifically looking for volunteers for our fall gala on 11/9. We need volunteers who can help with decorations, set up and tear down, fundraising by getting auction items and/or sponsors, greeters, prayer team members and administrative help. If any of these areas is of interest to you, will you please complete this form?

Thank you for your support and prayers.

Love and blessings,

Debbie
